Confidentiality and Data Security



General Information

Your information will be treated as confidential as directed by the Code of Practice for Statistics. The findings produced will not identify you or anyone in your household.

The processing of your personal data is carried out by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) under its public interest remit. This supports the development of methods that help improve future data collection and ensure it serves the public good and promotes safeguarding.

Survey data may be shared with other government departments, approved organisations, and researchers - but only for research and statistical purposes, and never in a way that could identify you. For more information on how your data is used, visit www.ons.gov.uk/surveys.



Is the information I give confidential?

Yes. The information you give us will be treated as confidential as directed by the Code of Practice for Statistics. It will not identify you or anyone in your household. All information collected is subject to the Code and the same standards of protection are applied to your information at all times. No individual will be identifiable from the results. Your answers will be combined with others that take part in the survey. You will not receive any ‘junk mail’ as a result of taking part.

  • The MRS and ESOMAR professional codes of conduct. This means we commit to uphold industry standards which are designed to satisfy legislation and promote high quality research
  • The ISO 20252: market research quality standard which has specific requirements for the handling of personal information
  • The ISO 9001: standard for quality management systems which stipulates conformity to regulatory requirements and a need for defined controls for the processing of records
